Friends in a Monastery

On his Discipleship Training School (DTS) outreach, Kenny made friends in a most unlikely place: a Tibetan Buddhist monastery. Some DTSes, like the one Kenny attended in Cimarron, Colorado, use their outreaches to establish an ongoing presence in a particular unreached area. This continuity makes outreach efforts more effective and longer lasting, and gives the students a sense of being part of God’s greater plan for a people group.
YWAM Cimarron sends many of their outreach teams to the mountainous Himalayan region of Asia, where they are focusing on the countries of Nepal, China, Bhutan, India and Pakistan. Their teams are committed to serving the local body of Christ through teaching and discipleship as well as reaching the unreached through mercy ministries, evangelism, and intercessory prayer treks into remote villages.
YWAM Cimarron’s DTS training includes physical, cultural, and language preparation for lifestyle in the Himalayas. Some of their DTS graduates have gone back as long-term workers who are now striving to see followers of Jesus in areas where there has never been a church before.
After his DTS, Kenny said he plans to finish his college education in Texas, and he hopes that one day he can return to share Jesus’ love in this beautiful part of the world.
